New asphalt on SR 22 through Toppenish.

Prior to construction, SR 22 between I-82 and Toppenish had narrow lanes and shoulders and experienced frequent collisions.

Crews widened SR 22 from I-82 through Toppenish and made safety upgrades.

Crews built wider lanes and shoulders, flattened roadside slopes, updated guardrail, installed new sidewalks with ADA ramps, and added turning lanes to improve access from side roads and reduce the risk of collision.

WSDOT worked with the City of Toppenish to construct this project.


2003 gas tax: $4.26 million
Pre-existing funds: $0.23 million
Local: $0.14 million
Total project cost: $4.63 million
