Crews are drilling the bridge-support shafts
April 2007 - We are drilling the shafts that will support new bridges. Once drilled,
we will fill them with rebar (steel bar) cages
and concrete for strength.
This rebar will go in the bridge-support shafts with concrete and support the bridge.
April, 2007 - Crews form the steel cages before slipping them into the drilled shafts.
Crushed rock arrives by the truck load
April, 2007 - Trucks bring in some of the 70,000 cubic yards of dirt and 46,000 tons of crushed rock needed to build the base for the new roadway.  
 
Part of Higgins Slough will be moved
April, 2007 - We are realigning sections of Higgins Slough to accomodate the new roadway.

Crews prepare to lift rebar for a bridge support column.
June, 2007 - Crews prepare to lift a section of rebar into the predrilled shaft.
Crews lower the rebar into the shaft.
June, 2007 - The rebar is lowered into the shaft where it will be incased in concrete.
Crews hoist a bridge girder into position.
July, 2007 - Crews tow a bridge girder into position.
Crews lower a bridge girder into position.
July, 2007 - The girder is slowly lowered into it's final position.

August, 2007 - The bridge deck has been poured and crews are working to build the rail on each side.
Crews begin paving as trucks bring in hot asphalt
August, 2007 - Trucks line up to deliver asphalt to the crews that are laying and compacting the fresh pavement.
Two machines are used to lay down the new apshalt
August, 2007 - Two crews work together to churn out the new asphalt. They will apply two layers now, and two layers when the job nears completion.
