Budget Information

SR 20 - Sedro-Woolley to Concrete Vicinity - BST

Status

May 2017

  • Contractor crews from Granite Construction are still working to fill cracks, do bridge deck paving and fog seal completed areas along this route.
  • We have heard your concerns about lengthy delays and are working with the contractor to lower those wait times.
  • Travelers should still plan ahead for lengthy delays through this work zone during weekday daylight hours or consider alternate routes.

Overview
This resurfacing project will rehabilitate the existing pavement and preserve SR 20 from near Fruitdale Road in Sedro-Woolley to the eastern Concrete city limits (mileposts 67.10 to 90.52).

Why is WSDOT improving this stretch of highway?
Resurfacing this stretch of highway will preserve the integrity and life of the roadway. Doing this restoration work before the underlying road is damaged provides a cost-effective fix and keeps the highway in safe condition for year-round residents and travelers who use SR 20 through North Cascades National Park when the highway is open.

What does this work involve?
Contractor crews from Granite Construction will apply coats of warm oil and pre coated gravel to the existing pavement to create a new surface. This is called a Bituminous Surface Treatment (BST) which helps preserve the highway in between paving projects.

What should drivers expect?
Crews will work during weekday hours. Drivers should expect some minimal delays. Flagging crews will alternate traffic through the work zone.

The End Result
This project will preserve the highway and help avoid costly or unexpected emergency repairs.
