SR 20 Spur - Sharpes Corner to Anacortes Ferry Terminal - Paving & ADA - Complete October 2018

The stretch of SR 20 Spur between Sharpes Corner and Commericial Avenue and 12th Street/Oakes Avenue between Commercial Avenue and the Anacortes Ferry Terminal, was last paved about 20 years ago. The road was showing signs of wear and tear and there were cracks and potholes in places along the highway. There were also many highway crossing areas that didn't meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. The $6.7 million project will extend the life of the roadway, provide a smoother ride for the more than 30,000 vehicles that use the road every day and upgrade pedestrian crossing areas. WSDOT will coordinate with the city of Anacortes and repave Commercial Avenue at a later date.

The End Result

This project preserved the infrastructure of the highway, reducing the need for costly emergency repairs and unexpected closures. This project also added room to the shoulder for people who bicycle this stretch and improved access for people of all abilities at nearly five dozen intersection crossing areas.

The cost of this project was $6.7 million.
