SR 20 - Red Cabin Creek - Chronic Environmental Deficiency - Complete October 2011

Overview
We realigned Red Cabin Creek and built a new bridge over the creek to protect the highway, improve fish passage and eliminate the need for annual maintenance of a culvert. The new bridge opened in October 2011.

Every time the old culvert plugged and flooded the highway, the road was at risk of being damaged. The new bridge helps protect the road and drivers from annual flooding. 

The highway is a vital link for daily drivers as well as emergency services, such as police and first responders.
Leaf Glyph Protects Environment
Before we built the bridge, there was a small culvert that routinely plugged and flooded the highway.  The culvert prohibited migratory fish from passing under the highway. 

We had to dredge the creek annually to keep the water flowing. Dredging cost tax payers money on an annual basis and impacted the environment in many ways.

With the new bridge, cutthroat, coho and chum can migrate up Red Cabin Creek.

The bridge will reduce annual maintenance costs required for dredging the creek to keep the culvert open.
