On January 7, 2009, the rushing water of the flood-swollen Cedar River in south King County eroded soil underneath a retaining wall on SR 169. This erosion caused the wall to sink and damaged the roadway, a section of concrete barrier, and a pedestrian trail at the base of the wall.
Crews repaired the wall and barrier, and replaced the material that washed out from behind and below the wall and roadway. They also repaired the pedestrian trail.
The repaired retaining wall will support the roadway and reduce the risk of further damage to SR 169.
Partnerships & Cooperation
We worked with the City of Renton to repair and open the road and trail. Contractor Northwest Construction completed the emergency project.
