Project Facts
- The intersection at SE 416th carries approximately 11,500 vehicles a day.
- We've created a chart of public feedback (pdf 361kb) from the April informational meeting.
- SR 169 is an important rural and commuter highway.
May 2008
• Engineers have sumbitted a design plan for internal review that would add turn lanes at the intersection.
In 2005, the legislature provided funding to improve the intersection and reduce the risk of collisions at SR 169 and SE 416th Street, just north of Enumclaw.
Why is WSDOT
improving the SR 169/SE 416th intersection?
There are a significant numbers of accidents on the SR 169 corridor. Of the 18 collisions that occurred at this intersection in the past five years, 11 were injury collisions, and one was a disabling collision. We want to reduce the number and severity of collisions at the intersection and move traffic more efficiently.
The End Result
Our preferred option will increase safety and allow drivers to travel faster through the SR 169/SE 416th intersection. It will eliminate delays caused by vehicles waiting to turn left on SR 169.
Project Benefits
• Safety. Will drastically reduce the possibility of high speed T-bone collisions that can occur when drivers turn onto or cross SR 169. Will also reduce the likelihood and severity of rear end collisions that can occur while drivers wait to turn left or slow to turn right from SR 169.
• Congestion Relief. Through traffic on SR 169 will no longer back up waiting for left-turning vehicles.
What is the project timeline?
WSDOT engineers have begun preliminary design work on this project.
In fall 2009 we will competitively select a contractor to build the project.
Public Involvement
Your thoughts and opinions are important to us. If you have questions or comments, please contact the project office.
Environmental Protection
During design and construction we will make every effort to assess and minimize negative environmental effects of this project.
Please visit the WSDOT Environmental
Services Web site for more information.
Increasing safety is one of our priorities
Our preferred improvement option will increase safety by reducing the likelihood of serious collisions.
Will this project impact tribal resources?
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
We will contact tribes and other interested parties as we develop this project and solicit their review and comment.
