15th St. SW to S. 180th St. Stage 3: HOV Lanes--Auburn to Renton

Project Description
This project reduces congestion by adding a northbound high occupancy vehicle lane and adding ramp meters and high occupancy vehicle bypass lanes at several interchanges.

Recent Progress

This winter, crews have nearly completed widening the bridges over SR 18 in Auburn and Meeker St. in Kent  Ramp work at Willis St (SR 516) in Kent, and 180th (43rd St) in Renton will continue through the spring.  Work on the detention vault at the North bound 180th ramp is nearly complete.  This spring and summer will bring the completion of the final overlay of the asphalt in the vicinity of SR 18.

 

Design Construction Impacts
The 84th Ave. I/C ramp work was deleted from the contract at award for lack of available funding.  (All bids exceeded available funding)

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Environmental documentation is complete and permits have been obtained.  All environmental impacts will be mitigated as part of this project.

Impacts to Traffic
The project will improve the efficiency of the general purpose and HOV lanes.  Construction will require lane closures at times during non-peak hours.  Public outreach will be conducted.
