15th St. SW to S. 180th St. Stage 3: HOV Lanes--Auburn to Renton

Project Description
This project reduces congestion by adding a northbound high occupancy vehicle lane and adding ramp meters and high occupancy vehicle bypass lanes at several interchanges.

Recent Progress

We opened the northbound HOV lanes on SR 167 between SR 18 and 15th Street NW at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12.  Crews are able to continue work on the west shoulder with all three lanes open.  This winter, crews will also work on widening the bridges over SR 18 in Auburn and Meeker St. in Kent  Ramp work at Willis St (SR 516) in Kent, and 180th (43rd St) in Renton will continue through the winter and spring.

 

Design Construction Impacts

The 84th Ave. I/C ramp work was deleted from the contract at award for lack of available funding.  (All bids exceeded available funding)

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

Environmental documentation is complete and permits have been obtained.  All environmental impacts will be mitigated as part of this project.

Impacts to Traffic
The project will improve the efficiency of the general purpose and HOV lanes.  Construction will require lane closures at times during non-peak hours.  Public outreach will be conducted.
