How To Use HOT Lanes

To use the SR 167 HOT lanes, solo drivers must open a Good To Go! electronic toll account. When you receive your e-sticker transponder in the mail, simply attach it to the inside of your windshield.

Here is what a typical drive in the
SR 167 HOT lanes would be like:

» Driving south on I-405, you approach the exit to SR 167 and see traffic beginning to back up. Rats! You're in a hurry to get to an important business meeting. As you merge onto SR 167, you see a sign notifying you that a HOT lane access point is just ahead.

» As you approach the access point, you see another sign that displays the current toll rate, which adjusts as traffic levels change. The current toll is $3.25. You decide to take the HOT lane.

» As you pass through access points, you watch for cars merging in and out of the HOT lane. At each access point (four southbound and six northbound), a sign displays the current toll amount, which can change at any time, but you pay only the amount displayed when you entered. The sign now says $2. Cars entering at this point will pay $2, but you already paid – your account is charged only once (you paid $3.25).

HOT lanes are designed to keep traffic flowing—when vehicles start to move slower, the toll price increases, causing fewer solo drivers to choose to use the HOT lane. The fluctuating toll price keeps the lanes free flowing. If HOT lane speed gets too slow despite the increased toll price, the HOT lane will automatically switch to HOV-only, assuring that transit stays on schedule.
