SR 164 Route Development Plan Recommended Improvements

We are developing a route development plan for SR 164, from Auburn to Enumclaw, which includes a list of recommended improvements that address safety and congestion issues along the corridor. Our study team is re-drafting the route development plan based on the SR 164 Corridor Working Group for comments. WSDOT will then review and approve the draft plan by the end of this year when we expect to release the final SR 164 route development plan.

How did we create this list of projects?

We based the recommended locations and projects on feedback from local residents and recommendations, ideas and technical analysis from the SR 164 corridor study team and WSDOT.

For the technical analysis, we relied on traffic, collision, and environmental information. We also factored into our analysis estimated future population, jobs, and travel growth along the corridor.

What is next for the SR 164 recommended projects and how much will the improvements cost?

Under the current highway improvement budget, we would be able to build very few if any of the identified projects in the foreseeable future.

Many of the improvements recommended in the SR 164 route development plan project list have not been considered in sufficient detail to allow for development of a usable cost estimate. Even before accounting for inflation, the total cost of the projects (if they were built today) would be well in excess of $200 million dollars.
