SR 162 - Ball Creek Culvert Replacement - Complete October 2013

WSDOT crews successfully installed a 12-foot culvert under SR 162 in September 2013. The previous highway culvert was a barrier to fish passage. Many highway culverts were installed years before we understood and recognized the needs of fish. The Department is committed to fixing its fish barrier culverts as part of the Fish Passage Program.

How You Benefit
Leaf Glyph Protects Environment
Salmon and other fish need access to freshwater habitat for spawning and juvenile rearing. WSDOT recognizes that removing fish barriers is important to the restoration of fish habitat and salmon recovery efforts.

Since 1991, WSDOT has completed 269 fish barrier removal projects opening up over 904 miles of potential upstream habitat for fish.
