September 2005 Progress
We laid down the first layer of asphalt on the newly widened road.
This is one of the detention ponds that will collect, store and treat rainwater runoff from the highway.
The box culvert will help with flood control and improves fish passage.
July 2005 Culvert Installation
Over the weekend of July 22-24. WSDOT and contractor Tri-State Construction closed SR 161 to install a new, larger culvert to carry Hylebos Creek underneath the highway. After demolishing and removing the pavement, crews dug a huge trench underneath the highway to accommodate the new culvert.
March 2005 Clearing
In March and April we cleared trees and brush along SR 161 to make room for the new lanes.
