Overview
Two additional travel lanes and a center turn lane were added to SR 161 between 176th and 234th streets. Among the other improvements were installation of traffic signals, street lights, sidewalk, curb and gutter.
WSDOT opened the roadway ahead of schedule. The two main objectives of this project were to improve regional mobility and enhance safety in this high-accident corridor.
 | Improves Safety
The project added signals and modified existing signals while widening the roadway. Additionally, the project included more street lights and improved traffic flow to address safety issues in the area.
|
 | Protects Environment
Installed several storm water retention ponds, built a closed storm sewer system and improved local wetlands.
