Recent Progress
The City of Edgewood hired a consulting firm to work with the City and its residential and business communities to develop the City's preferred improvement strategy for SR 161. WSDOT participated in the study's Stakeholders' Advisory Committee. The committee was expected to make recommendations to the City Council in June 2004, but the recommendations were delayed. The City Council is currently debating design issues in a series of Council workshops. WSDOT will consider the recommendations when the design process is re-started in 2005.

Design Construction Impacts

Right-of-way purchase and further design work was halted until the City’s improvement strategy for SR 161 is better understood. Design is expected to re-start in 2005.

There are numerous utilities in the state right-of-way throughout the two-mile project corridor. Overhead and underground utilities will have to be relocated prior to Contract Ad. Contract Ad could be delayed if utilities are not relocated by fall 2008. If project is delayed, construction costs could escalate.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Stormwater will be collected and treated in accordance with current standards.

Impacts to Traffic
Public can expect periodic lane closures during construction, and slow-moving traffic through the work area
