Recent Progress
The City of Edgewood, the City of Milton, and WSDOT have agreed that this widening project will construct two lanes in each direction. Additional turn lanes will be provided at intersections. WSDOT is currently considering recommendations from the City of Edgewood contained in Resolution Nos. 05-205 and 06-223. Costs associated with the resolutions were presented to the City of Edgewood in December 2005.

Design Construction Impacts
Right of way purchase and further design work was halted until the city’s improvement strategy for SR 161 was better understood. Design resumed in summer 2005.
There are numerous utilities in the state right of way throughout the two-mile project corridor. Overhead and underground utilities will have to be relocated prior to Contract Ad. Contract Ad could be delayed if utilities are not relocated by fall 2008.
