SR 160 - SR 16 to Long Lake Road - Complete October 2009

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending June 2009

Project Title & Location
SR 160 - SR 16 to Long Lake Road

Project Description
This safety improvement project flattens slopes from SR 16 to Phillips Road vicinity and increases road shoulder widths to 4 feet (6 feet between Estonia and Brasch). A two-way left-turn lane will be added from Fred Meyer to Brasch and left turn lanes will be added at Phillips Road. The project also creates flat bottom ditches for storage of treatment for runoff.

Contractor/Consultant
The project was awarded to RG/Bowers Construction Joint Venture on March 2, 2009 .

Recent Progress
Construction was started 4/2/09

Utility relocation completed prior to June 1.  A change order was executed to address the added costs for the contractor coordinating their work around the utility relocation work beyond the May 1 date identified in the contract.  This change order covers all utility impacts through June 1.

Contractor has completed the roadway widening required for sewer installation.

Design Construction Impacts
An agreement was reached with a property owner to replace an approach onto SR 160 with an approach onto a county road.  The relocation of this approach will enhance the safety of the highway.

A change order was executed to remove unsuitable material that was designed to be used on the project from the project and replace it with select borrow.

The completion of the utility relocation took longer than originally planned. The Project Office and contractor have worked together in scheduling construction activities to minimize conflicts between the utilities' relocation, and the project work, to maintain the project schedule.  The project office held weekly meetings with and worked closely with the utility companies to coordinate and expedite their relocation work, accomplishing completion by the revised committment of June.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
The project has minimal environmental impacts, no wetlands will be directly impacted.  All completed slopes and open slopes that are not being worked are covered with temporary erosion control blankets.  The other project BMP's are in place and in good working order.

Impacts to Traffic
Single-lane alternating traffic will be used during construction.  In addition shoulder closures and reduced lane widths will be required for some operations.
