View entire map. Project is on SR 160 (Sedgwick Road) and begins at the intersection of SR 160 and SR 16 and ends at Long Lake Road.

New six-foot-wide shoulders will increase safety in the school zone between Estonian Court to Brasch.

New left turn lanes will be constructed at the Phillips Road Interection.
Why is WSDOT
making safety improvements on SR 160?
To reduce the frequency and severity of collisions, we are making safety improvements along a portion of State Route (SR) 160 in Port Orchard.
SR 160 is the the primary route from SR 16 to the Southworth Ferry Terminal. The corridor has a history of collisions that is expected to continue worsening as traffic volumes increase.
The End Result
The project provides a safer, smoother-flowing corridor with increased visibility and turning-sight distance. Flattened slopes will decrease the severity of collisions where vehicles leave the roadway. New left turn lanes at the Phillips Road intersection and a two-way left turn lane from Estonian Court to Brasch will also help to reduce collisions.
Pedestrian safety improvements include new railing on the SR 16 overpass and new six-foot-wide shoulders in the school zone from Estonian Court to Brasch.
Project Benefits
- Safety. Increased visibility and turning sight distance improves safety.
- Environment. A new stormwater treatment facility and vegetated filter strips removes pollutants from highway stormwater runoff.
What is the project timeline?
Construction started in April 2009 and is scheduled to be complete in October 2009.
