Constructs a new grade-separated interchange on SR 16 at Burley-Olalla Road to improve safety at this high accident location.

Recent Progress

Design work began fall 2005.  Currently the Olympia Design Office is developing the project management plan, project milestones, deliverables and schedule, to deliver this project for Advertisement in November 2007.  The project team is preparing responses to the 1998 VE Study recommendations in order to obtain concept approval in early 2006.

Design Construction Impacts

The project team is developing the project management plan and project delivery schedule to identify critical deliverables, task relations and dependencies, and assignments.  An environmental document delivery plan will be developed early in the process in order to obtain permits by advertisement.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

The Value Engineering Study recommends a tight diamond interchange due in part to wetlands in proximity of all four quadrants.  Design will minimize or avoid wetland impacts. An environmental document will be prepared, and, if unavoidable, impacts and mitigation will be identified.

Impacts to Traffic

Building the needed interchange will impact travelers accustomed to this at-grade access with SR 16.  The project team will look to develop ways to optimize construction while minimizing traffic impacts.  The local roadway system offers practical detour options that will likely be needed during construction.
