Recent Progress
The contractor began work on July 23, 2008. The new eastbound and westbound off ramps to Burley Olalla Rd. have been completed, with slight modifications to carry mainline SR16 traffic which has been detoured onto them. The bridge for the new SR16 mainline and all walls have been completed, along with the roadway embankments which are nearly ready for paving. Barrier work across the bridge and new mainline SR16 has also been completed.

Design Construction Impacts
The project office and contractor have developed and implemented staging changes to utilize the new on and off ramps to detour mainline traffic onto while the new mainline roadways and associated bridges are constructed, eliminating the construction of the temporary SR16 roadway as originally planned. These revisions have allowed contract work to continue through the winter, reduced contract time and are providing a substantial financial savings to the public.

Impacts to Traffic
Four lanes of SR 16 will be provided throughout the duration of the project. Traffic speeds through the area have been reduced to 40 MPH and will remain until the fall of 2009. With the exception of Emergency Vehicles, access at Burley Olalla Road to and from SR 16 has been closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project. There will be single lane closures throughout the life of the project during work hours. Weekend single lane closures were successfully implemented for both the eastbound and westbound tie-ins for the SR 16 temporary alignments.
