Recent Progress
The contractor began work on July 23, 2008. Nine of the projects thirteen walls have been complete, the remaining four walls are for the new SR16 eastbound and westbound lanes and work on these will begin shortly. The new eastbound on and off ramps to Burley Olalla Rd. have been completed and the mainline SR16 eastbound traffic has been detoured onto these ramps. The westbound lanes are scheduled to be shifted in mid December. These lane shifts are necessary to allow for the construction of the new SR16 alignment and associated structures. The first stage of the north and south fish passages have been completed (under the new ramps) and work for the final stage of the fish passage culverts is beginning.
The temporary Illumination system is completed and in operation along with the drainage necessary for the new on and off ramps.

Impacts to Traffic
Four lanes of SR 16 will be provided throughout the duration of the project. Traffic speeds through the area have been reduced to 40 MPH and will remain until the fall of 2009. With the exception of Emergency Vehicles, access at Burley Olalla Road to and from SR 16 has been closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project. There will be single lane closures throughout the life of the project during work hours.
