The 2012 legislature funded this project for planning and design. The two currently recommended alternatives following an engineering study feature dedicated left turn lanes or a roundabout. A public involvement process is now underway to get user input about the intersection and what should be done to address the increasing traffic and the collisions occuring there.
An Open House was held at the Chelan City Hall on Wednesday November 28. A total of 142 people signed in and 55 comment forms were filled out. 30 attendees were for the roundabout, 11 were against the roundabout, 4 were in favor of left turn lanes and 7 proposed other (less expensive) solutions or said no improvements are needed.

This I-2 Highway Capital Improvement Program Collision Prevention Safety Project will construct improvements to the intersection of SR 150 and No See-Um Road between Manson and Chelan.
Why is WSDOT
improving this intersection?
Even with hundreds of yet-to-be-developed residential lots that will be accessed through this intersection, the current average traffic count has already risen to 10,000 vehicles per day. These volumes are producing more and longer delays for side-road traffic - the result of the lack of gaps to turn onto the highway. Faced with these conditions, drivers are sometimes making decisions that result in a collision or a near miss.
The proposed alternatives are anticipated to reduce delays and collisions.
The End Result
A new intersection to accommodate higher traffic volumes while reducing the potential for serious collisions.
- Reduced potential for serious collisions and improved traffic flow
- Better motorist information from new signs and striping
- Extended roadway life with new pavement
- Reduced maintenance costs
What is the project timeline?
The project is currently funded for design, but not construction. That additional funding could be provided by the legislature as early as 2014.
