SR 124 - East Jct. US 12 - Reconstruction - Complete April 2004

Overview
Realigned a sharp curve on SR 124 to reduce the risk of accidents.

SR 124 curves sharply to the left about one mile east of the Railroad Crossing near the Ice Harbor Dam Road.  SR 124 travels in virtually a straight line for ten miles east of this curve and almost three miles west.  By realigning the curve, WSDOT provided a more drivable roadway, and minimized the risk of a vehicle running off the road. WSDOT took the initiative on this project to correct a potential problem.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
This project reduces the risk of run-off-the-road accidents at this curve. Vehicles are able to travel safely at the posted speed of 60 mph.

Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT worked with area tribal officials to identify and minimize adverse impacts to areas of cultural, archeological or anthropological significance. When applicable, we addressed the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan. This process did not apply because the project did not impact tribal lands.
