WSDOT replaced two fish passage culverts, one under SR 112 and the second under Eden Valley Road. Crews cut the roads open, removed the existing culverts, and installed larger, wider culverts that allow fish passage and a more natural streambed environment. After the new culverts were in place, the road was repaved.
| Protects Environment
Salmon and other fish need access to freshwater habitat for spawning and juvenile rearing. Many highway culverts were installed years before we understood and recognized the needs of fish. WSDOT recognizes that removing fish barriers is important to the restoration of fish habitat and salmon recovery efforts.
