Olympic Peninsula travelers who want to use alternatives such as carpooling or vanpooling to destinations in Kitsap County and the greater Seattle urban area will receive help arranging travel options.
The rideshare portion of the mitigation plan focuses on connecting east Jefferson, Clallam, and Kitsap County travelers with assistance services as well as to provide commuter information and registration for rideshare opportunities prior to and during the May-June 2009 closure.
Details about the design process and ultimate configuration of this program are described below:
- 24-hour online rideshare registration program
- Drivers can go to
www.rideshareonline.com and use the online database to identify their transportation needs and be matched up with others with similar needs.
Ride match call center - An existing ride match call center will be utilized to connect drivers. Drivers can call the toll free number at (888) 814-1300.
Trip planning assistance - Trip planning assistance will be available, possibly as part of the call center operations. It will support the transit component of the mitigation plan by helping people determine how they can use public transportation to reach their destinations.
Establishing Vanpool Groups - Vanpools the most efficient method of ridesharing; they group people by destination and arrival time and provide the vehicle to get them there. A rideshare service would first determine the need for specific vanpool groups and proceed from there. For more information, call (888) 814-1300 or visit www.rideshareonline.com.
