State highway locations that will experience increased congestion during the bridge closure have been identified. Solutions were created in order to get drivers to their destination on time; provide them with the fastest routes; help them avoid being stuck in traffic; and, make travel easier.
- Make temporary improvements to state highway locations that will experience increased traffic during the bridge closure.
- Implement the incident management plan, including use of Incident Response Trucks, maintenance trucks, Washington State Patrol patrols, signage at key decision points, highway advisory radio, variable message signs and radio alerts to assist drivers.

INCIDENT MANAGEMENT PLAN (IMP)
An Incident Management Plan was developed to coordinate the needs and responsibilities of WSDOT Incident Response Team (IRT), WSDOT Maintenance, and Washington State Patrol (WSP) for the two closures that took place during 2005. This also included the installation and operation of, signage, Variable Message Sign (VMS), and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR). A modified version of this plan will be used during the six week closure.
Alternate route driving directions for commuters and visitors plus estimated travel times are available.
