Overview
In June 2009, WSDOT completed the east-half replacement project on the SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge. The new east-half was designed and constructed with 8-foot-wide shoulders that include 3-foot-wide plates over the bridge’s grated steel decking. The enhanced shoulders improved the experience for pedestrians and bicyclists that use the SR104 Hood Canal Bridge. These plates facilitate bicyclists use of the bridge.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
Enchanced shoulders allow bicyclists and pedestrians more room between the adjacent bridge barrier and the grated bridge deck.

Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT worked closely with the local bicycling community on the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas to enhance the shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists.
