Recent Progress
WSDOT is preparing a report on the new station, including a preferred site, cost estimates, additional rail line infrastructure requirements between Stanwood and Everett to support two daily, peak hour commuter trains between Stanwood and Everett, the environmental permits that will be needed, and a construction timeline to complete the project by June 30, 2007. WSDOT has met with city of Stanwood staff, representatives of the BNSF Railway Company, and Sound Transit. The report will be completed by March 31, 2006.
WSDOT has recently learned that the federal government is reviewing station platform criteria for compliance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). The proposed rule making may have an impact on the platform design at Stanwood, and may impact the construction timeline. In March 2006 the state legislature passed a proposal to direct WSDOT to begin stopping Amtrak Cascades intercity trains at Stanwood once the platform is completed.

Design Construction Impacts
The station will be located between Main Street and a power substation in downtown Stanwood. It is unlikely that construction will have an adverse impact on the community, as the site is a vacant lot. However, construction of a platform could have a temporary impact on rail operations in the area.
