Currently passenger trains can be delayed as long as 15 minutes while they wait for freight trains to pass in this area, located south of Tenino. This project would construct a crossover, which is a set of turnouts connecting multiple tracks. They allow trains to move from one track to another. They will allow faster passenger trains, including Amtrak Cascades, to move around slower freight trains.
