Project Description

Contractor/Consultant
Otak, Design Work

Recent Progress
Work continues on design for first floor improvements in consultation with city of Seattle and Amtrak. Issues to be resolved include location of an interior stairway to the second floor and a related second first floor access point as required by city of Seattle codes. Design work is completed for roof replacement and related drainage improvements and is incorporated into a bid package.

Execution of the donation agreement between BNSF Railway and the city of Seattle is essential to moving forward with construction.  This agreement is expected to be signed in the next few weeks.  An agreement between WSDOT and the city of Seattle to allow this work is being negotiated.  Upon completion of these agreements WSDOT will proceed to bid out the roof work, estimated at about $1.6 million.  While the roof work is underway, Otak will be working to finalize the design for the balance of the interior work.

WSDOT and the city of Seattle's Department of Transportation (SDOT) will be developing a construction strategy that will allow best use of state and city funds.  SDOT has $10 million to contribute towards the project.  This money will allow for s seismic retrofit of the building and reconstruction of the Jackson Street Plaza; items not funded in the original WSDOT plan.
