Rail - Dayton Yard Rehabilitation - Port of Columbia County

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending March 2008

Project Title & Location
Dayton Yard Rehabilitation – Port of Columbia County

Project Description
This project will upgrade tracks owned by the Port of Columbia.

Contractor/Consultant
Palouse River and Coulee City RR/Watco Companies

Recent Progress
The original scope of work for this project called for upgrades to the rail yard near the Seneca Green Giant facility in Dayton. When rail traffic to and from the Green Giant facility declined, it was determined that the existing yard tracks would be sufficient to handle the reduced volume of traffic.

WSDOT will use these funds on other portions of the line near Dayton.  In March WSDOT toured the entire 69-mile line between Wallula and Dayton to review a preliminary list of rehabilitation projects identified by WSDOT's field inspection team.  WSDOT will be refining the draft investment plan for these funds and the $5.3 million available for the Port of Columbia/Wallula to Dayton Track Rehabilitation project and sharing this plan with the port, the railroad, and local shippers in spring 2008.
