Recent Progress

The original scope of work for this project called for upgrades to the rail yard near the Seneca Green Giant facility in Dayton. When rail traffic to and from the Green Giant facility declined, it was determined that the existing yard tracks would be sufficient to handle the reduced volume of traffic.

WSDOT is proposing to re-direct these funds to another portion of the line owned by the Port of Columbia. In September, WSDOT met with representatives from the ports of Walla Walla and Columbia to discuss development of a new expenditure plan for these funds and the $5.3 million available for the Port of Columbia/Wallula to Dayton Track Rehabilitation project. The proposed expenditure plan will be shared with the ports, the Governor’s Office and the legislature in early 2008.

The change in scope for this project must be approved in the 2008 Supplemental Budget process.
