This project, from Everett to the U.S./Canadian border and a project south of Nisqually upgraded and improved track quality, travel times and passenger comfort along the Amtrak Cascades corridor.
In a related project, WSDOT also completed six Slide Management Projects designed to reduce the risk of landslides and improve rail service north of Seattle.
Tracks and equipment were upgraded with state-of-the-art technology, improving safety.
Improving tracks allows trains to travel at higher speeds, cutting down on travel time and making service more reliable.
Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT worked closely with BNSF Railways, which owns the tracks that were improved.
WSDOT received federal high speed rail funds from the 2009 Recovery and Reinvestment Act, administered by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
Project Budget: $30.7 million
