Toppenish Simcoe and Western Yakama Sawmill Traffic Upgrades, Yakima County

Project Description
Upgrades existing Toppenish Simcoe & Western line for increased traffic from Yakama Tribe sawmill, supporting 225 jobs.

Contractor/Consultant
Toppenish Simcoe and Western Railroad Co.

Recent Progress

WSDOT and the County negotiated changes to the grant based upon the private operator's offer to provide labor and equipment at no cost.  The offer allows the entire line to be upgraded rather than half of it.

Design Construction Impacts
No construction impacts are anticipated.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
No environmental impacts are anticipated.

Impacts to Traffic
Track work will be done around train operations.  Work in the vicinity of at-grade crossing could cause minor delays to vehicles in the area.

Project Milestones Scheduled Attained Milestone Outlook
Contract Complete Sep 2005 Sep 2005 Grant agreement signed. 
Construction Begins June 2006 Construction date adjusted to allow for more favorable weather.  Agreement modified to include trackage to MP 20.0, with construction anticipated to begin in October 2006.
Construction Complete June 2007 Construction is anticipated to be completed on time.
