The Washington State Legislature passed Washington's Complete Streets Act with the goal of encouraging street designs that safely meet the needs of all users and also protect and preserve a community's environment and character.
Consultation must include community design principles with stakeholders and identification of community goals and priorities. WSDOT must consider the needs of all users by applying Practical Solutions consistent with peer reviewed guides, reports, and publications. The Department may also use Grant Program funds for Complete Streets improvements for city streets that are part of state highways. This website provides information and supporting resources related to WSDOT's ongoing efforts to comply with the Complete Streets Act.
