I-5 HOV - Port of Tacoma to King County Line

Project Description
This project builds HOV lanes on I-5 from the Port of Tacoma Road to the Pierce/King County line. There are currently eight lanes of traffic and there will be 10 lanes when the project is complete.

Recent Progress

Recent progress includes acquisition of the needed property for the wetland mitigation site for this project.  Also, the region is working towards acquiring the needed right-of-way for stormwater treatment facilities by this summer.  This would complete all acquisitions needed for this project.

 

Other recent accomplishments include completion of the 90 percent bridge plans and provisions.

 

Currently the hydraulic plans and provisions are scheduled to be completed this spring. 

Design Construction Impacts

No issues at this time.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

The Final Hydraulics Report has been approved by Headquarters.  Completion of this report has allowed the right-of-way acquisitions for stormwater facilities to proceed.

Impacts to Traffic
Temporary impacts during construction could include narrow lanes along with nighttime lane closures and minor detours at the 54th Avenue Interchange.

Hydraulic and Stormwater Redesign August 2004 October 2004 The stormwater and hydraulic redesign are complete.
Environmental Documentation Complete October 2006   Environmental documentation is currently scheduled to begin in January 2005.
Right-of-Way acquisition complete June 2005   Work to acquire the needed right-of-way for the stormwater treatment facilities is scheduled to be completed this summer.
Advertisement Date January 2009   No issues at this time.
Open to traffic October 2011   No issues at this time.
