I-5 Port of Tacoma Road Interchange to King County Line

Project Description
This project builds HOV lanes on I-5 from the Port of Tacoma Road to the Pierce/King County line. There are currently eight lanes of traffic and there will be 10 lanes when the project is complete.

Project not yet advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress
The Tacoma/Pierce County HOV Office has submitted plans for approval for the Port of Tacoma Road to King County Line Project. The Project Management Plan has been drafted and is awaiting management endorsement. The draft Area of Potential Effect is being prepared by the Section 106 team. Subterranean utility work is under way. Illumination, signing and workzone traffic control design initiated. Final roadway alignment and modeling work continues. 

The Port of Tacoma Road to King County Line project includes a smaller project, Spring Valley Restoration project. Work continues on this project. Good progress is being made. The channel and road work is anticipated to be complete by mid-September 2007. The project is expected to be complete by mid-January 2008.

Design Construction Impacts
No issues at this time

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

Work on the Spring Valley Restoration project began in summer 2007.

Impacts to Traffic
Temporary impacts during construction could include narrow lanes along with nighttime lane closures and minor detours at the 54th Avenue Interchange.

Right of Way Certification December 20, 2008 August 2006 May need additional right of way due to new flood-plain mapping.
Advertisement Date January 20, 2009   No issues at this time.
Open to traffic June 20, 2012   No issues at this time.
