Chip seal work on SR 14
The new surface reduces the effects of aging on the pavement, requires less repair work, and reduces maintenance costs on SR 14.

Overview
In addition to age and normal wear, this portion of SR 14 receives a heavy amount of freight traffic. The roadway deteriorated and there were lengthy cracks along the route. Chip sealing protects the pavement from further damage, rejuvenates the road surface, and extends the life of the roadway.

In February 2009, President Barack Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. WSDOT stood ready to translate the federal recovery funding into job creation and highway improvements, including this roadway preservation project.

As a result of the project, close to six miles of highway have a new roadway surface. Chip sealing repairs roadway damage and extends the life of the roadway. This treatment improves safety for drivers by creating a highly skid-resistant surface and reducing glare. To learn more about the chip-seal process, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/regions/eastern/chipseal.
