Replace Puget Island ferry terminal with an improved geometry facility.
Why are we Building This Project?
The ferry landing has a structural deficiency rating lower than the Minnesota bridge that failed, this project needs funding to proceed. You will note a lag date between the advertisement and flow of construction spending, this occurs because; 1) The fisheries work window on the lower Columbia River is a later fall/early winter timeframe, 2) There will be a need for the contractor to order some items such as the pontoon before in-water work, so billings should appear in the 4th quarter of '09. This project is an important interstate connection for the lower Columbia communities, that can be our only means of access when landslides close US 30 in Oregon or SR 4 in Washington. Dozens of people rely on the ferry to commute to and from their workplace, in this economically distressed area.
