Crews replaced the cracked and broken pavement on westbound I-90 as it passes over State Route 18 just east of North Bend. They rebuilt the expansion joints that allow the bridge to bend and flex with changing weather and heavy traffic.
More than 40,000 vehicles use this stretch of road each day including 8,000 heavy trucks.
Crews also replaced 250 feet of guardrail.
Passing cars and trucks can kick up loose pavement which can lead to collisions. Removing the loose concrete, repairing the old expansion joints and repaving the road makes for a safer driving surface. It also extends the life of the roadway.
