I-90 - Sullivan to Idaho State Line-ITS - Complete September 2011

Construct a fiber optic link along I-90 from the Sullivan Interchange to the vicinity of the Idaho border. Add 4 new traffic cameras and upgrade two traffic cameras along I-90 plus a westbound variable message sign near the Port of Entry.

Why is WSDOT adding this ITS equipment?
These new cameras and variable message sign will expand the traffic monitoring capacity and provide addtional information to motorists.

The End Result
New or updated cameras at Barker Road Interchange, Appleway Interchange, Liberty Lake Interchange, the vicinity of Knox Rd. and near the Idaho border.  A new variable message sign for westbound traffic near the Liberty Lake Interchange.

Project Benefits
Safer highway with camera monitoring allowing for faster incident response. Better driver information with the new message sign.

What is the project timeline?
The project will be designed and built during 2009 with cameras and message sign activated later in 2009 or early 2010.
