You may have noticed WSDOT crews installing a test section of wildlife exclusion fencing along I-90 near Hyak. This is part of the I-90 Snoqualmie Pass East Project plans to reduce the number of collisions between animals and vehicles.
Engineers will spend the next three winter seasons evaluating different types of wildlife exclusion fence. The study will help determine the effect of environmental conditions and maintenance operations (i.e. snow removal activities) on the fences. The results will help WSDOT decide which fence to choose. If all goes as planned, construction will begin Spring 2010.
