Why is WSDOT replacing cameras on I-90?
WSDOT cameras on I-90 perform well during daylight hours, but only display black images at night. Drivers and WSDOT Traffic Operation Centers are now able to view current weather and road conditions during nighttime hours.

The End Result
WSDOT replaced existing cameras across Snoqualmie Pass with cameras that are able to function in low light conditions. The traveling public is now able to view current weather and road conditions around the clock rather than being limited to daylight hours only. WSDOT Traffic Management Centers will be able to better alert the public of pending road conditions and emergencies that occur at night.

Project Benefits

  • Safety. WSDOT Traffic Management Centers are able to better alert the public of pending road conditions and emergencies that occur at night. Drivers are able to view current weather and road conditions during all hours of the day.
  • Moving Washington. Cameras are a vital part of WSDOT 's communication strategy to keep motorists informed and traffic moving smoothly.

What is the project timeline?
The cameras have been installed and this project is complete as of September 29, 2009.
