Work crews removing rock slabs from a slope demonstrate the danger of falling boulders.

We know that the I-90 rock slide lane closures affect travelers and businesses. WSDOT and Wilder Construction crews are doing everthing we can to get all lanes safely open as quickly as possible. Stabilizing the rock slope is extremely challenging. You can see the hazardous conditions in this recent video showing the repair work.
In the past few weeks we have heard from frustrated drivers asking why we must close lanes at the rock slide. Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. Recently, KOMO TV captured some footage of crews removing rock from a slope above Chuckanut Drive near Bellingham. While this footage was not from I-90, the video clip from KOMO TV demonstrates just how powerful falling rocks can be and why we are taking precautions to ensure motorist safety.
