Project Facts

Interstate 90 was closed to all traffic due to a rock slide in the snowshed vicinity.

WSDOT hired Wilder Construction to complete the emergency repair.

Fortunately no vehicles were caught in the slide and none collided with the debris on the roadway.

Overview
Removed loose rock and stabilized the slope after several rocks, some the size of refrigerators, fell onto the westbound lanes of I-90, four miles east of Snoqualmie Summit (Milepost 58).

WSDOT crews closed westbound I-90 after a rockslide on November 6, 2005.  Fortunately, no vehicles were caught in the slide and none collided with the debris on the roadway.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
By stabilizing the rock slide area, WSDOT hopes to reduce the potential of sudden slope failures in the future.

Partnerships & Cooperation
The contractor worked with WSDOT to evaluate the rock slope, determine stabilizing measures, and expedite reopening the roadway as quickly as possible.

WSDOT worked with tribal officials to identify and minimize adverse impacts to areas of cultural, archeological or anthropological significance. When applicable, we addressed the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan. This project will not impact tribal resources.

Funding
This project was funded as an emergency repair project.  The cost was estimated to be $1.4 million.
