Project Description
Acquire right of way and replace the low clearance Potato Hill Bridge to eliminate a detour now required for legal-height trucks, and reduce the risk of over-height trucks hitting the bridge on Interstate 90. Recent Progress
The project remains on schedule and within budget. The 2005 Washington State Legislature appropriated $750,000 to construct a pedestrian bridge adjacent to the new bridge. The WSDOT has determined that it is less expensive to construct one wider bridge rather than constructing two separate bridges. This new bridge will accommodate vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles. The combined structure will also give Grant County and the City of Moses Lake the option of converting the bridge to a four lane structure as traffic volumes increase and still provide pedestrian and bicycle access. The project will impact 3 parcels. Right of way funding has been approved, appraisals complete, and offers being made. Coordination with the City of Moses Lake concerning bridge lane configuration continues.

Design Construction Impacts
The project will require the relocation of several utilities in the area including Grant County PUD, Quest, a private irrigation line and a City of Moses Lake sewer main. The utilities were formally notified in September 2002 about the project. Relocation of affected utilities will occur during the spring and summer of 2005. Coordination with the City of Moses Lake will be ongoing during the Construction phase.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Biological Assessment was completed in May 2001. Environmental Classification Summary signed May 2001. SEPA, Determination on Non-Significance checklist signed May 1995.

Impacts to Traffic
Traffic on I-90 will experience temporary lane closures during bridge construction. Traffic on Potato Hill Rd. will be allowed to travel over the existing bridge during the construction of the new bridge and will be directed under temporary traffic control while tie ins are made to the new alignment when the new bridge is ready.
