October 2006 - Crews put a thick layer of sand on the road surface to protect the ground from falling rocks.

October 2006 - Crews put up more than 120,000 square feet of protective fencing on the rock face.

September 2006 - Construction crews have removed over 30,000 cubic yards (about 2000 dump truck loads) of loose rock from the hillside.

September 2006 - Construction crews will install rock bolts into the hillside once the loose rock has been removed.

August, 2006 - Doug MacDonald, Secretary of Transportation and Don Whitehouse, Regional Administrator listen as Bob Hooker, WSDOT Assistant Project Engineer for I-90 midway Curves project, points out the hard work being done by Scarsella Brothers General Contractors to stabilize the rock slopes.

July 2006 - Construction crews have begun removing loose material from the mountainside above I-90. To date, over 5,000 cubic yards of material has been excavated from the hillside.

Once the loose rocks have been removed, crews will then further stabilize the slopes using bolts and protective fencing.

June 2006 - Traffic has been shifted to the new eastbound lane configuration.

June 2006 - Temporary detour widening is complete

WSDOT has identified these three unstable slope areas as high hazard/high risk sites. Crews will evaluate the unstable slopes, remove loose rocks, and stabilize the slopes using rock bolts and protective fencing.
