Overview
In January 2006, the WSDOT chief engineering geologist delivered an unstable slope report to Governor Gregoire, evaluating the unstable slopes on the I-90 corridor from North Bend to Easton. In the report, WSDOT identified three unstable slope areas four miles west of Easton on westbound I-90 as high hazard / high risk sites.

WSDOT and the contractor stabilized these three slope areas by removing loose rocks, installing rock bolts and drains, and adding and repairing protective

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
By removing unstable material and installing rockbolts and protective fencing, WSDOT reduced the potential for future rockslides.
Car GlyphRelieves Congestion
Avoids possible emergency closures and delays.
Dollar Sign Glyph Economic Incentive
Eliminating potential rockslide areas reduces delays from rock slides and the need to repair roadways due to falling rocks.

Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT worked with the contractor to evaluate the rock slope, determine the best methods to stabilize, remove unstable materials and expedite reopening the roadway with minimal impact to traffic.
