I-90 - Increase Vertical Clearance on Cle Elum River Bridge - Complete Novermber 2004

Quarterly Project Report Update for Quarter Ending June 2003

Project Title & Location
I-90/Cle Elum River Br. 90/134N, West of Cle Elum

Project Description
This project will provide increased vertical clearance for the westbound Cle Elum River bridge (90/134N).

Contractor/Consultant
This project is not yet advertised or awarded.

Recent Progress
This project is in the design stage.  The design of the bridge modification will be completed during the winter of 2003-2004, and the project will be constructed in the summer of 2004.

Design Construction Impacts

The Washington State Legislature recently enacted the “nickel package” which funds this project to decrease delays to cross-state freight and travelers.  After reviewing the project scope and estimate, we found that the detour will be more complicated than expected.  This increases the project cost total by $560,000; however, we do not anticipate a change in the schedule.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance

All environmental documents are complete or proceeding on schedule.  All work will occur within the existing right-of-way and bridge structure.  Impacts are limited and are mitigated as part of the contract.

Impacts to Traffic
During construction the speed limit will be limited to 50mph.  Westbound traffic will be detoured to the eastbound lanes during the day and westbound Exit 80 will be closed.  All lanes will be opened to traffic from Friday at noon to midnight Sunday and at nighttime.
