In 2003 and 2005 the state Legislature allocated $112 million for interchange improvements. This funding falls short of WSDOT’s $215-$235 million estimate to complete the project. As a result, WSDOT will build the project in phases.
Phase one of the project, which includes two new flyover ramps, began in August 2010 and is expected to be completed in late 2012 or early 2013. These improvements can be seen on the first map below.
Phase two has been broken up into five parts, as shown on the second map below. Funding has not yet been secured for any part of phase two.
